Arthur Karuletwa is the Global Coffee Traceability Director at Starbucks Coffee Company. He is a social intrapreneur passionate about poverty reduction initiatives through coffee. Ten years after the 1994 genocide, he returned to his native home of Rwanda to play a role in the economic and social recovery of a post-genocide era, as a consultant under the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. Karuletwa currently leads the development and implementation of Starbucks’ end-to-end traceability system—a system he co-developed to make the connection from the farmer to the customer in more than 20 countries. Karuletwa is also a 2009 Legatum Fellow at MIT.
